Labradoodle History

Labradoodles originated in Australia during the late 1980's. Wally Conran of the Royal Guide Dogs in Victoria Australia crossed a Labrador Retreiver with a Standard Poodle in an attempt to provide a guide dog to a vision-impaired woman that had a husband who suffered from allergies. The first litter produced a pup with an allergy friendly coat with a temperament that was suitable to be a guide dog.

First generation (F1) labradoodles were found to be great service dogs and excellent family pets. The first generation cross with two different purebred lines result in "hybrid vigor"; healthier offspring receiving the best of both parents. Many people have gone onto breeding second generation and multi-generational Labradoodles.

Labradoodles are a low shedding dog. They make great family pets, are sociable, intelligent and respond very well to positive training methods.

To obtain size variations Labradors are bred with standard or miniature poodles

Goldendoodle History

Since there was such success with Labradoodles the purebred Golden Retreiver was crossed with a purebred Standard Poodle producing a gentle dog with an allergy friendly coat. These showed up on the scene in the 1990's.
